Re: ABIY IS MELES BY ANOTHER NAME: EPRDF’s successor, Prosperity Party, will suffocate hopes of democratization in Ethio

yaballo,

I can't complain, the best of Meles is what Ethiopia deserves; EPRDF as a front for decades was an oxymoron; all Dr. Abiy did is what Meles talked about of making it a party one day; The Dr. named it Prosperity Party! It is a move in the right direction. Off course, old habits of EPRDF won't die quick; that archaic mind set "suffocated" the country for decades is a fact; p2 is more of a breath of fresh air to the morbid EPRDF, it is so to speak, it's renaissance now; it may take some time for true "democratization" of Ethiopia. In that we all agree!

Cheers!

It can be argued, however, that the 1995 federal constitution existed firmly on paper but, for the most part, was never truly implemented in practice. It is clear, even to the casual observer, that the right to self-governance, among other rights, was never fully granted. :
mrgreen: That is perfectly how the system was designed to function. Otherwise how could a minority party come up with a system that could indeed work against its own interest? The so called Federalism, if implemented as written, TPLF would have been relegated to irrelevance right after the ratification of the arrangement.

In reality, all regional states have been governed by the ruling EPRDF coalition, either directly or indirectly through affiliated parties, all of which have maintained power through controversial elections. As a result, a de facto unitary system of governance was produced wherein the central government had free rein to involve itself in the internal affairs of all states.
This is only lost on the TPLF thieves. They cry fouls about how the new PM is anti-federalism when in fact there was no federalism to begin with. Now let's move to build the real Federalism and give the moochers the taste of the real concept and its bearings.
