I think the Finfinne Intercept got it wrong again.

The opinion peace clearly favored the position of the Ethiopians over that of the Egyptians in contrast to that of the American stand.

America said that it was disappointed at the position of the Ethiopians while the opinion here says the Egyptians should change their intransigent position.

For Example the piece said:

"Thus Germany and its European partners should tie their financial contributions within the framework of the compensation solution to the following conditions. They would have to demand a reorientation of Egypt’s state spending policy, which should no longer be oriented towards authoritarian logic. To achieve such a reorientation, political reforms towards better governance and accountability would be indispensable. Ethiopia would have to commit itself to reacting flexibly in the case of extreme droughts during the mutually agreed timeframe of filling the reservoir.

At the same time it is probably not prudent to take a position that is against everybody. AU can't do much alone, if both EU and US may finally take the same position and it could be helpful for Ethiopia to try to separate the two positions instead of rejecting every right away.

In any case the postion of the opinion piece is more favorable to Ethiopia than that of the Americans, a plus for Ethiopia here.

The demand from Ethiopia in the peace is not something to which Ethiopia itself didn't concede itself before, as far as I am informed about the issue.
