Afewerki’s root is from Tembien in eastern Tigray while Adanesh’s root is from Megariya Xemri and Yeha (መጋርያ ጸምሪ ዎ ይሓ) in western Tigray. Kegnezmatch and Adanesh had 11 children. Later in mid life, Afewerki immigrated from Aba Shawl to Tigray under the guidance of his father and mentor Dejezmatch Abraha Hagos. Afewerki began to maintain an independent living in Mekelle, Tigray for the rest of his life. Afewerki was honoured with two aristocratic ranks in Tigray. First he was honoured Kentiba Afewerki (ከንቲባ ኣፈወርቂ). After few years he was honoured with a much bigger rank, Kegnezmatch Afewerki (ቀኘዝማች ኣፈወርቂ).

Kegnezmatch Afewerki had his own home and a mistress in Mekelle while maintaining his long distance love with Weizoro Adanesh Berhe, who was living in Geza Berhanu and latter in Geza Kenisha in Asmara. He was constantly travelling Mekelle to Asmara and vice versa to maintain both the legitimate and illegitimate relations. That way, Kegnezmatch fathered 11 children in the long distance love with Adanesh Berhe.

Kegnezmatch Afewerki worked in Mekelle, in the office of Ministry of Land Reform and Administration of Imperial Ethiopian Government, until his retirement in the mid 70s. Kegnezmatch

One Tigraiyan source of information says that he personally knows that Yohannes IV's brother was a"Lij" and not a "Ras". And "Lij" Hagos could not be the ancestor of Afwerki or Issaias. What do you say now? What is the significance to you if Issaias Afwerki's "root" is Tigray? Even if it is proven to be true,it does not stop him from being an Eritrean.
