ትግራዮች እና የኤርትራ ብሄረ ትግርኛ ሁለቱ የተለያዩ ነገዶች /ብሔሮች ናቸው !
ትግራዮች በተለምዶ ትግሬዎች እየተባሉ ይጠራሉ። ይሄ ትግሬ የሚለው ስም ሌላ ኤርትራ እና ሱዳን ውስጥ ካለ ትግረ (ሐይሻ) በሚል ከሚጠራ ብሔር ጋር እንዳይመሳሰል ላስገነዝብ ወዳለሁ። ኢትዮጵያውያን ትግሬ እያልን የምንጠራቸው ባብዛኛው አሁን ትግራይ እየተባለ በሚጠራው ክልል ውስጥ በአደዋ፣ ሽሬ(ሽረ)፣ መቀሌ(መቐለ) የሚኖሩትን ትግርኛ ተናጋሪዎች ሲሆን አሁን ያሉት እነዚህ ከላይ በተጠቀሱት ቦታዎች የሚኖሩ ትግርኛ ተናጋሪዎች ራሳቸውን በክልላቸው ስም ትግራይ እንዲሁም ተጋሩ እያሉ መጥራትን ይመርጣሉ ። እኔም በዚህ ፁሑፍ ላይ መጠራት በፈለጉበት ስያሜ ትግራዮች እያልኩ እጠራቸዋለሁ። ወደ ዋናው ነገራችን ስንመጣ ብዙ ወገኖች ትግራዮች እና የ ኤርትራ ብሄረ ትግርኛ አንድ አይነት ብሔር ይመስሉዋቸዋል። በመሰረቱ ግን ሁለቱ ፍፁም የተለያዩ ነገዶች ናቸው። ትግራዮች የኤርትራ ብሄረ ትግርኛን ትግራዮች ናቸው አንድ ብሔር ነን ብለው ያስባሉ። ብዙ ትግራዮችም ኤርትራዊ የመሆን ፍላጎት አላቸው። የባድመ ጦርነት ከመነሳቱ በፊት ብዙዎቹ ትግራዮች ራሳቸውን ኤርትራዊ እያሉ ይጠሩ ነበር። ከባድመ ጦርነት በሁዋላ እነዚህ ትግራዮች ከፍተኛ የሆነ የማንነት ቀውስ ውስጥ ገብተዋል። በተቃራኒው ብሄረ ትግርኛዎች ስለ ትግራዮች ያላቸው ስሜት ምን እንደሆነ ሲጠየቁ ትግራዮች ወይም አጋሜዎች እያሉ ይጠሩዋቸዋል። (Hassan Adem, M.T., Tekle B, 2010) እነዚህ ኤርትራውያን ብሄረ ትግርኛዎች ትግራዮችን የማይታመኑ እና ልባቸው የማይገኝ አድርገው በአሉታዊ መንገድ ይስሉዋቸዋል። ”Eritreans sometimes contemptuously refer to them- cannot be trusted and never could.” (Smith,et al. 2003, Africa, volume 73, p.377) ።

በኤርትራውያን ብሄረ ትግርኛዎች ላይ በተደረገው በዚህ አንትሮፖሎጅካል ማህበራዊ ጥናት ላይ አንድ የ eplf ታጋይ የነበረ ለፕሮፌሰር ሪድ ”አባቶቻችን እና ቅድመ አያቶቻችን እነዚህ ትግራዮች አደገኛ ናቸው በደንብ እናውቃቸዋለን ብለው አስጠንቅቀውናል” ብሎ ኤርትራውያን ነፃነታቸውን ባወጁበት ዓመተምህረት በ አውሮፓ አቆጣጠር በ1991 ወይም በ1983 ኢ.አ ምስክርነት ሰጦ ነበር። “Be careful, these people are dangerous, we know them well!” (Smith,et al. 2003, Africa, volume 73, p.377 )

ብሄረ ትግርኛዎች ከ ትግሬዎች የተለየ ማንነት እንዳላቸው እያሳወቁ ትግሬዎች ብሔረ ትግርኛዎችን እንደራሳቸው ብሄር አድርገው ለምን ይቆጥሩዋቸዋል? ብሄረ ትግርኛዎች ኤርትራዊ የሚባል ሃገራዊ ማንነት ሲገነቡ ትግራዮች ከብሄረ ትግርኛዎች የተለየ ብሔራዊ ማንነት መገንባት ለምን ተሳናቸው? በትግራዮች ዘንድ የሚታየው የማንነት ቀውስ ምንጩ ምንድን ነው? ለመሆኑ ይህ የብሔረ ትግርኛዎች ለ ትግራዮች ያላቸው አሉታዊ አመለካከት እንዴት ሊመጣ ቻለ?

የነገድ ማንነት ትርጉም በተለያዩ የማህበራዊ ሳይንስ ተመራማሪዎች እና ፀሐፊዎች የተለያየ ፍች ይሰጠዋል። ነገድ ጎሳ እና ብሄር የሚሉት ቃላት ኢትዮጵያ ውስጥ አሁን ባለው ተቀራራቢ ፍች ነው ያላቸው። ብሔር ከሀገር ጋር ጎሳ ከቁዋንቁዋ ጋር ስለሚዛመዱ ethnicity ለሚለው የእንግሊዘኛ ቃል በጣም ተቀራራቢ የሆነው ቃል ነገድ የሚለው ስለሆነ ነገድ እያልኩ እጠቀማለሁ።

ማክስ ዌበር የነገድ ማንነትን ተመሳሳይ የሆነ ውጫዊ አቁዋም ወይም ልምድ ስላለን አንድ የጋራ የነገድ ምንጭ አለኝ ብሎ የማመን ግላዊ እሳቤ ነው ይለዋል። የአንድ ነገድ አባልነት እውነተኛ የደም ትስስር ቢኖረም ባይኖረም ዋና አላማው ፖለቲካዊ ቡድን ወይም ማህበረሰብ መፍጠር ነው ይላል።

“Those human groups that entertain a subjective belief in their common descent because of similarities of physical type or of customs or both, or because of memories of colonization and migration; this belief must be important for group formation; furthermore it does not matter whether an objective blood relationship exists…ethnic membership does not constitute a group; it only facilitates group formation of any kind, particularly in the political sphere. On the other hand it is primarily the political community, no matter how artificially organized, that inspires the belief in common ethnicity.” (1978, Max Weber, p. 389)

ፕሮፌሰር ጆሹዋ ደግሞ የነገድ ማንነት የሚወሰነው በዋናነት በስነልቦና ነው ይላል። አንድ ሰው የአንድ ነገድ አባል ነኝ ብሎ ራሱን ማሳመን እና መግለፅ ይኖርበታል ይላል።

The psychological dimension of ethnicity is perhaps the most important because, regardless of variations in the biological, cultural, and social domains, if a person self-identifies as a member of a particular ethnic group, then he or she is willing to be perceived and treated as a member of that group. Thus, self-ascribed and other-ascribed ethnic labels are the overt manifestations of individuals’ identification with a particular ethnicity. (2001, Joshua A. Fishman, p.115)

የነገድ ማንነት ከ ሃይማኖት ከቋንቋ እና ባህል ጋርም ይያያዛል። ግን በሀማኖት እና ቋንቋ መቀራረብ አንድ የጋራ ነገድን አይፈጥርም። ለምሳሌ ጀርመኖች እና ኦስትርያዎች ተመሳሳይ ቋንቋ አና እምነት እንዲሁም ተቀራራቢ ባህል እና ወግ ቢኖራቸውም ራሳቸውን እንደ ሁለት የተለያዩ ነገዶች ነው የሚያዩት። ሁቱ፣ ቱትሲ እና ትዋ ሶስቱም ነገዶች ሩዋንዳ ሩንዲ የተባለ ተመሳሳይ የአፍ መፍቻ ቋንቋ ነው ያላቸው። ሃይማኖታቸውም ባመዛኙ ተመሳሳይ ካቶሊክ ነው። ባህላቸውም ተቀራራቢ የባንቱዎች ባህል ነው። ነገር ግን ራሳቸውን እንደተለያዩ ነገዶች ነው የሚቆጥሩት። በደቡብ ሱዳን ያሉ ዲንቃዎች ቋንቋ ብዙ አይነት አነጋገር ቢኖረውም አንድ ዲንቃ ነገድ ነን ነው የሚሉት። የ ኑዌሮች እና የ ሺልቆች (Shilluk) ቋንቋ በጣም ተመሳሳይ ቢሆንም ሁለቱ ራሳቸውን እንደተለያዩ ነገዶች ነው የሚያዩት።
ለብሄረ ትግርኛ ነገድ ትግርኛ የቋንቋቸው መጠሪያ እና የነገዳቸው መጠሪያ ስያሜ ምንጭ ነው።

”In official papers distributed by the Eritrean Government, the ‘language’ (Tigrinya) is used as an ethnic term of the group” (1998, Kjetil Tronvoll, P. 30).ኤርትራ ውስጥ ያሉ ሌሎች ነገዶችም የቋንቋቸው ስም የነገዳቸው መጠሪያ ሁኑዋል። ”Nearly all the ethnic groups in Eritrea are also named after their language, including the Tigre, Kunama, Afar, Nara, Saho, Hedareb, and Bilen” (Hassan Adem, M.T., Tekle B, 2010)

ብዙ በዓለም ላይ ያሉ ነገዶች ስም እና ቋንቋ የተመሳሰለበት ግዜ አለ። አማራ እና አማርኛ ፣ ኦሮሞ እና ኦሮምኛ፣ እንግሊዝ እና እንግሊዘኛ፣ ፍሬንች እና ፈረንሳይኛ ወዘተረፈ። በ 1990ዎቹ በተደረገ ጥናት አብዛኛዎቹ ብሄረ ትግርኛዎች ራሳቸውን የሚገልፁት ሐማሴን፣ አካለ ጉዛይ እና ሰራዬ በሚል ነበር።

“However, people from the highlands do not speak of themselves as “Tigrinyans.” When asked they would usually reply as did Tewolde, a 60-year old villager from Mai Weini: “Tigrinya is just the language, it is not the tribe (aliet). The tribe is Kebessa (highland). Or, when in the highlands, the tribe is Akele-Guzai, Seraye or Hamasien”( Kjetil Tronvoll, P. 30,1998 )”

የመጀመሪያው በትግርኛ የተፃፈ ፅሁፍ የተገኘው የአሁኗ ኤርትራ ውስጥ ሲሆን ትግርኛ ቋንቋ ሁለት አይነት የአነጋገር ዘየዎች አሉት። የ አስመራ እና የ ትግራይ። የትግርኛ ቋንቋ መደባዊ ቋንቋ የ አስመራ ዘዬ ነው ። ሃማሴኖች በ ንጉስ ላሊበላ እና በ አፄ ሰርፀ ድንግል ከ ወሎ እና ጎንደር በውትድርና የሄዱ እንደሆኑ ብዙ የታሪክ ድርሳናት ያትታሉ።

ከእንግዲህ በ ብሄረ ትግርኛ በትግራይ እና በ ትግረ መካከል ያለው ዝምድና ”ትግ” የምትለው ቃል ናት። ይህም እነዚህ ሶስት ህዝቦች ከዘመናት በፊት ከአንድ ተቀራራቢ የዘር ሐረግ መጠው ሊሆን ይችላሉ። ዳሩ ግን ከዘመናት በፊት ሁሉም የሰው ልጅ ከአንድ የዘር ግንድ እንደተነሳ ይታመናል። በዘመናት ሂደት ይህ አንድ የሰው ዘር በቦታ እና በአካባቢ ልዩነት የራሱን ቋንቋ እና ባህል እንዲሁም ነገድ ማህበራዊ ቡድን እየፈጠረ እንደመጣ ይታመናል።

ከ እንግዲህ እነዚህ ብሄረ ትግርኛዎች ራሳቸውን ከ ትግራዮች ጋር እንደ አንድ ነገድ የማያዩት ለምድን ነው? ምክንያቱም ተመሳሳይ የሆነ ስነልቦና እና አብሮ የመኖር ትስስር ስለሌላቸው ነው። ብሄረ ትግርኛዎች እና ትግራዮች ለዘመናት የተለያዩ ግዛቶች እንደነበሩ በታሪክ ተጠቅሱዋል።አብዛኛዎቹ ብሄረ ትግርኛዎች ጎንደሬዎች ቤጃዎች እና በለዎች እንደሆኑ በስፋት ተጠቅሱዋል።

“The 9th century Arab geographer Al-Ya’qubi wrote of six Beja kingdoms located in what is today Eritrea. Beja place names are found throughout the central and northern highlands of Eritrea, suggesting widespread Beja interaction with other communities (Schmidt, Curtis, Teka , p. 284, 2008)”

ብሄረ ትግርኛ እና ትግራዮች ተቀራራቢ ቋንቋ ቢጠቀሙም የተለያዩ ሁለት ነገዶች መሆናቸውን በአካባቢው ጥናት ያደረጉ ተመራማሪዎች ፅፈዋል። ሮይ ፓተማን ብሄረ ትግርኛ እና ትግራዮች ሁለቱ የተለያዩ ነገዶች መሆናቸውን እንዲህ አስቀምጦታል። አስትርያዎች ጀርመኖች እና የተወሰኑ ስዊዞች ጀርመንኛ ቢናገሩም ሁሉም የተለያዩ ህዝቦች እነሆኑት ሁሉ በ ኤርትራ ከፍታማ ቦታዎች የሚኖሩት እና ትግራዮች ከጥንት ጀምሮ የተለያዩ ነገዶች ናቸው ስል ፅፉዋል።

“Even in those distant times, however, it is clear that the land and people of highland Eritrea were distinct from people of Tigray, even though they spoke the same language-just as the Austrians, Swiss Germans and the Germans of today are very different people (Roy Pateman, P.33, 1998).”

ከላይ እንደገለፅኩት ሁቱ እና ቱትሲ ተመሳሳይ የአፍ መፍቻ ቋንቋ እና ተመሳሳይ ሃይማኖት ቢኖራቸውም ራሳቸውን እንደ ሁለት የተለያዩ ነገዶች ነው የሚቆጥሩት። ፖርቹጋላዊው ፍራንሲስኮ አልቫሬዝ በ 16ኛው ክፍለ ዘመን ወደ ምስራቅ አፍሪካ በመጣ ግዜ ያየውን እንዲህ ገልፁዋል።

”ይህ መረብ የተባለው ወንዝ ባህረ ነጋሽ እና ትግራይን የሚለያይ ድንበር ነው” ”Here; this river, the Mareb, separates the country of the Bahar Nagash from that of Tigray” ( Francisco Alvarez al et , P. 91, 1540)።

ባለባበሳቸው እና በባህላቸውም የተለያዩ መሆናቸውን ገልፁዋል

”The men (of Medri-Bahri) wear different costumes; so also the women who are married or living with men. Here (Tigray), they wear wrapped round them dark coloured woolen stuffs, with large fringes of the same stuff, and they do not wear diadems on their heads like those of the Barnagasi (Midri-Bahri people)”. ( Francisco Alvarez, P. 91-2 ,1970)

ስኮትላንዳዊው ጀምስ ብሩስም ባህረ ነጋሽ የ አሁኑ ኤርትራ ከ ትግራዮች የተለየ መሆኑን እና ድንበራቸው መረብ ወንዝ መሆኑን አስቀምጡዋል። በምዕራብም በኩል የትግራይ ድንበር ተከዜ ወንዝ እንደሆነ ቁልጭ አድርጎ አስቀምጡዋል። ትግራዮች ከ ብሄረ ትግራይ ጋር በታሪክ አብረው የኖሩበት ግዜ አልተመዘገበም። የአሁኖቹ አንዳንድ የትግራይ ምሁራን ከየት አምጥተው ነው ብሄረ ትግርኛን እና ትግራይን የለያየው ምንሊክ ነው የሚሉት? ከዚሁ ጋር በተያያዘ ወልቃይት ጠገዴ ጠለምት እና ታች አርማጭሆን አፄ ምንሊክ ነው ወደ ጎንደር ያስገቡት የሚሉት ሁሉ ውሸት መሆኑን የጀምስ ብሩስ ማስረጃ ያሳያል።

“The greatest length of Tigre (Tigray) is two hundred miles, and the greatest breadth one hundred and twenty. It lies between the territory of the BaharNagash (which reaches to the river Mareb) on the east, and the river Tacazze on the west.” ( James Bruce, p.83,1860)

በ 1838 ወደ አካባቢው ያቀናው አሳሽ ጆን ሚልስም የ ትግራይ እና የባህረ ነጋሽ ድንበር መረብ ወንዝ መሆኑን ቁልጭ አድርጎ አስቀምጡዋል። ”መረብ የ ትግራይ እና የባህረ ነጋሽ ግዛትድንበር ነው”። እውነታው ይህ ሁኖ ሳለ የማንነት ቀውስ ያለባቸው አንዳንድ የትግራይ ልሂቃን በፈጠራ እኛ እና ብሄረ ትግርኛ አንድ ነበርን ምንሊክ ነው የለያየን የሚል የሐሰት ክስ ያቀርባሉ። እውነቱ ግን ምንሊክ ሳይወለድ በፊት ትግራይ እና ብሄረ ትግርኛ በአንድ ግዛት ኑረው አያውቁም። አንድ ነገድ ሁነውም አያውቁም።

በ19ኛው ክፍለ ዘመን ወደ አካባቢው ያቀናው እንግሊዛዊው ፕሎውደን ትግራዮች ብሄረ ትግርኛን እንደ ራሳቸው ነገድ አያዩትም ነበር ሲል ቁልጭ አድርጎ አስፍሩዋል። ” ከ ራስ ሚካኤል ግዜ ጀምሮ የሐማሴን እና ሰራዬ ሕዝብ ከ ትግራዮች ጋር ተመሳሳይ ቁዋንቁዋ ቢናገሩም ትግራዮች በ ብሄረ ትግራይ ላይ ተደጋጋሚ ጦርነት ያደረጉባቸው ሲሆን አንድ ነን ብለውም አያስቡም”

“The people of Hamazain and Serowee, since the time of Ras Michael, though speaking the same language, are still scarcely (hardly) considered by the people of Teegray as a portion of that country whose governors, since that period, have made war on them….” (Walter Chichele Plowden, P. 39, 1868)

ከ እንግሊዝ ጋር ተዋውለው የእንግሊዝን ጦር አቅጣጫ እየጠቆሙ በትግራይ በኩል በማስገባት የባንዳነት ሥራ የሰሩት እና በመቅደላው ጦርነት አፄ ቴዎድሮስ እጅ አልሰጥም ብለው ራሳቸውን ከሰዉ በሁዋላ በእንግሊዞች መሳሪያ እርዳታ ስልጣን የያዙት ብዝብዝ ካሳ ወይም አፄ ዮሐንስ ወደ ባህረ ነጋሽ ጦራቸውን ልከው ከፍተኛ ጭፍጨፋ መፈፀማቸው ይታወቃል። በወሎ እና ጎጃም ሕዝብ ላይ የጅምላ ፍጅት የፈፀሙት በዝብዝ ካሳ ወደ ኤርትራም ራስ አሉላን ልከው ሁለት ሶስተኛ የሚሆነውን የባህረ ነጋሽ ሕዝብ ጨፍጭፈዋል። (, Lyda Favali and Roy Pateman, p. 36, 2003 ) (, Hagai, and Erlikh, p.35, 1996) (Hassan Adem, M.T., Tekle B, 2010)

አፄ ዮሐንስ አደዋ ላይ ከ እንግሊዙ አድሚራል ሂወት ጋር በተዋዋሉት በሕወቴ ውል (Hewett Treaty) መሰረት ለእንግሊዞች አግዘው በመሰለፋቸው ድርቡሾች መተማ ላይ በተደረገ ጦርነት ገለው አንገታቸውን ወስደውታል። አፄ ዮሐንስ ከሞቱ በሁዋላ ራስ አሉላ በምንሊክ ከመገዛት ነፃ የትግራይ መንግስት ለማቁዋቁዋም ለጣልያኖች ከመረብ ማዶ ያለውን ባህረ ነጋሽ እንዲወስዱ ስምምነት ማድረጋቸውን የታሪክ ፕሮፌሰር ጌታቸው መታፈሪያ እና የፖለቲካ ሳይንስ ፕሮፌሰር ጳውሎስ ሚክያስ The Battle of Adwa: Reflections on Ethiopia’s Historic Victory Against European Colonialism በተባለው መፃህፋቸው አስፍረዋል። (Milkias, Metaferia, p.69, 2005)

ትግራዮች ብሄረ ትግርኛን እንደራሳቸው አንድ ነገድ አድርገው እንደማያዩ ራስ አሉላ ከዚህ በታች ለጣልያኖች ያቀረቡት የድርድር ሃሳብ ፍንትው አድርጎ ያሳያል።

”ቤታችሁን ለመስራት እርሻ ለማረስ ቤተክስርስቲያናችሁን ለመገንባት እስከ መረብ ድረስ ሀገር ከፈለጋችሁ ምኒልክ ሳይሆን እኛ ለናንተ እንሰጣችሁዋለን። የጣሊያን ወታደሮች ወደ አድዋ ይምጡ እንደ ወዳጅ አስተናግዳቸዋለሁ” “You want the country to the Mareb (Eritrean highlands/Medri Bahri) to cultivate your gardens, to build your houses, to construct your churches….? We can give it to you. [And not menilek.] Let the Italian soldiers come to Adwa, I shall come to meet them like a friend.” (1996, Ḥagai Erlikh, P. 164)

ራስ አሉላ እና ሌሎች የ 19ኛው ክፍለ ዘመን የ ትግራይ መሳፍንት ሙሉ በሙሉ ባህረ ነጋሽን ጣሊያኖች እንዲጠቀሙ ነበር የተስማሙት። ብሄረ ትግርኛዎችን እንደ ራሳቸው ነገድ ቆጥረዋቸው አያውቁም።

” እናንት ጣሊያናውያን ለምን እሩቅ ወዳጅ ትፈልጋላችሁ? እኛ ጎረቤታሞች ነን እርስ በርስ መጠቃቀም እንችላለን። መንገድ እንዲከፈትላችሁ ትፈልጋላችሁ እኔም እፈልጋለሁ። እናንተ እስከ መረብ ድረስ ያለውን ጠብቁ እኔም አስቀ ጎንደር እና ከጎንደርም አልፎ ያለውን እጠብቃለሁ። በ እግዚአብሔር እርዳታ ሀገራችንን ትግራይ ለማልማት ወደ ባህሩ ዳርቻ ድረስ በመሄድ መነገድ አለብን። ምኒልክ ሩቅ ነው ለናንተ የሚጠቅማችሁ ነገር የለም። በመካከላችን ወዳጅነት እንመስርት”

“And you (Italians), why do you need to look for distant friends? We are neighbors (meaning Medri Bahri and Tigray) and can serve each other. You want the road to be open and I want the road to be open. You should guard to the Mereb River and I will guard it to Gondar and even beyond Gondar. We must be able to go to the coast to trade in order that our country (meaning Tigray) would flourish, with the help of God, Menelik is too far to be of any use to you. Let us make friendship between us. (1996, Ḥagai Erlikh, 164)”

Do you ever wonder why so many people perished in Ethiopia and Eritrea?

The politics of Tigray-Tigrinya emerged around the early 1940s with the help of Brigadier Stephen Longrigg, who was then a British military administrator in Eritrea. His plan was to establish a pro-Western government in the Horn of Africa in collaboration with the Tigrayans in the northern part of Ethiopia. For many years, the average citizen of Ethiopia and/or Eritrea was unaware of this hidden political agenda. Unfortunately, in the last 50 years or so, many became victims of a horrific war in the Horn of Africa, including Yemen, Somalia and Djibouti which resulted in family breakdowns, disease, famine, oppression and forceful migration merely because of the Politics of Tigrya-Tigrinya.

Tigray-Tigrinya: How it all started

In 1941, the British and Italians devised a political strategy to defend their interests in the Red Sea and the Horn of Africa. They called it the “Politics of Tigrynia and The Politics of Showa”. (History tells us that the Tigrayan Yohaness IV, not only he conspired against Tewodros with the British but also he cooperated with the British in defeating Tewodros in exchange for arms. By the same token the Shoan Menelik II conspired with the Italians against the Tigrean Yohaness IV in exchange for arms.)

The politics of Tigrinya, therefore, was intended to install a pro-Western government in the Horn of Africa with the help of aristocrats in Tigray. According to the plan, first the government of Shoa must be weakened and then the state of Eritrea shall be divided into two or three sects. To implement this plan, Stephen Longrigg made a deliberate effort to instil Tigrayan nationalism inside Eritrea by authoring an article in English language under a pen name “Concerned Eritrean.” Woldeab Woldemariam (whose origin is from Tigray), supposedly translated the article into Tigrinya and published it in the newspaper “Haddas Eritrea”. They argued that there were strong ties between segments of the Eritrean population and Tigray. They refer to Tigray as having close ties with the highlands of Eritrea, thus in the 1950s it was called “Tigray-Tigrinya” by the Unionist pro-Ethiopia groups in Eritrea, and later in 1968 it was called “Hilmi Abay Tigray” (A dream for the Greater Tigray Republic) as it is stated on the 1976 TPLF manifesto.

Tigray-Tigrynia: elimination of Eritrean Liberation Front (ELF)

Iysayas Afeworki, like many of his close associates, considers himself as one of the inheritors of the Axumite Kingdom. He is one of the top accomplice in the politics of Tigray-Tigrinya (his origin is from Tigray). In 1969, the CIA had launched its own secret operation known by the code name of “seed planting project” at Kagnew military base in Asmara. At that time the United States had completely lost faith in the HaileSelassie government. The project was therefore intended to prepare an alternative means to defend American interests in the Horn of Africa. Tesfamichael Giorgio (an Eritrean assassinated by Iysayas in 1992), then a governor of a district in Eritrea, had participated in the negotiations at Kagnew between the CIA and Iysayas Afeworki. Iysayas’s job was to destroy Eritrean Liberation Front (ELF) and then use the EPLF to oust the soon to be communist government in Ethiopia. “If you satisfy our conditions,” said Richard Copeland, a CIA agent in Eritrea, “and you want independence, in return you shall have your independence.” As planned, Iysayas and TPLF (Tigray-Tigrinya) collaborated and destroyed ELF by driving it out of Eritrea. Also as planned, he regime in Addis Ababa collapsed and Eritrea won its independence.

Tigray-Tigrinya – The Empire of Jealousy disguised as a Strategic Policy

Tigray-Tigrinya state of mind is driven by Jealousy. Just like in the era of Mengistu Hailmariam’s Red Terror regime, citizens of both countries still continued to suffer under the rule of Tigray-Tigrinya. (some say that Tigray-Tigrinya agents have played a big role during the red terror communist regime). This empire of jealous men is armed with spy agencies, satellites, cash, bullets and other harmful ammunition to terrorize the region. Citizens are continuously harassed, poisoned, tortured and assassinated. It also functions as an organized crime of money laundering and human trafficking. It does not care whether you are an Ethiopian or Eritrean, innocent or guilty, poor or rich, illiterate or scholar, believer or atheist, citizen or immigrant, Christian or Muslim. Understand this, the terror in the Horn of Africa, especially in Ethiopia, Eritrea and Somalia is harbored by the politics of Tigray-Tigrinya.

Tigray-Tigrinya: The Traitor

Tigray-Tigrinya might very well be a pro-Western agent stationed in the Horn of Africa. Ninety percent of its high level agents are individuals who had strong links and connections with Tigray, in particular. The rest are volunteers who knew nothing about its true identity or individuals with personal interest. In 1998, a senseless boarder war had erupted between Eritrea and Ethiopia because of a small town named Badme. Hundreds of thousands of innocent lives had perished needlessly. Many left their families to escape the brutal war. What is shocking however is that the border conflict was carefully orchestrated and instigated by the puppet regimes in Asmara and Addis Abeba. The war was conducted ruthlessly. It was a senseless war. For the outsiders, it looked like a border issue. Unfortunately, the war was invented in order to keep both citizens hostage to an endless state of conflict thus securing Tigray-Tigrinya power for an indefinite period of time. During the war, citizens were falsely accused of treason. Some were locked in prison for many years without trial and many were executed. They systematically evicted citizens using threats of violence. Many young women were raped; some committed suicide and others fell into the hands of human traffickers. Thousands of innocent lives have disappeared without a trace and others were killed in poverty. Tigray-Tigrinya erroneous policy made citizens of both countries poor and destitute. Many became homeless and Orphans because of it.

Tigray-Tigrinya: Phase II-divide and rule

Here we go again. While Iyasyas Afeworki and his secret agents from Tigray are vandalizing the state of Eritrea, Ethiopian information minster Bereket Simon, Abay Woldu and Seye Abraha, on their part, are dissecting Ethiopia into many pieces, a plan that was initiated in 1940s. Minster Bereket Simon recently made a comment that his government is willing to help anyone who is persecuted in Eritrea because of his/her ethnic or religious background. (Facts: in Eritrea all citizens are persecuted regardless of their ethnic or religious background). Now, his government is arming and organizing Eritrean opposition groups in Northern part of Ethiopia to oust the government of Iysayas Afeworki. According to Bereket Simon, groups like Democratic Movement for the Liberation of the Eritrean Kunama (DMLEK), Afar Revolutionary Democratic Unity Front (ARDUF) and/or Red Sea Afar Democratic Organization (RSADO) should have the right to self-determination up to secession, if they wish to do so. What does this mean? Civil war! It is a threat against Eritrea that wars and violence will follow if the now/future Eritrean government fails to recognize opposition group’s demand for self determination.

Tigray-Tigrinya: The Trap

Eritrean opposition groups are now armed and trained in Northern part of Ethiopia to fight the regime in Asmara. Similarly, Ethiopian opposition groups are also managed and financed by Iysayas Afeworki to fight the regime in Addis. This is in fact another trap! It is meticulously designed by Tigray-Tigrinya leaders to control, monitor and finally sabotage the activities of both opposition groups before they strike. In the last ten years or so opposition group’s agenda of freedom and democracy has not moved an inch forward due to the manipulation of Tigray-Tigrinya security agents. TPDM (DMHIT), whose main task is to protect and serve the empire of Tigray-Tigrinya, is the only group who is making a substantial progress in power and number (TPDM has been training in a secret location in Eritrea for the last 20 years since 1991 and is directly financed by Isayas Afeworki).

Tigray-Tigrinya: Final Thought

Things will not get better in Ethiopia or Eritrea while Tigray-Tigrinya operation of deception is in power. We have enough evidences to show just how quickly Ethiopia and Eritrea are engulfed by Tigray-Tigrinya made disasters. It created a refugee crisis that has percolated throughout the Sahara desert, Europe and the greater Middle East. Ethiopia and Eritrea under the Tigray-Tigrinya apartheid regime are not the same country you once knew. Both countries are ruled by evil individuals who hate their country, their flag and the people. They claim victory when they see the suffering they have inflicted upon us, citizens. The grim reality is best understood by analyzing the mentality of Tigray-Tigrynia in power, and you need look no further than the network of hundreds of underground prisons spread across Ethiopia and Eritrea to see how evil and barbaric its leaders are. We must therefore act now. Let us all work together to restore the dignity of our people and country.

Citizens are continuously harassed, poisoned, tortured and assassinated. It also functions as an organized crime of money laundering and human trafficking. It does not care whether you are an Ethiopian or Eritrean, innocent or guilty, poor or rich, illiterate or scholar, believer or atheist, citizen or immigrant, Christian or Muslim. Understand this, the terror in the Horn of Africa, especially in Ethiopia, Eritrea and Somalia is harbored by the politics of Tigray-Tigrinya.

Tigray-Tigrinya: The Traitor

Tigray-Tigrinya might very well be a pro-Western agent stationed in the Horn of Africa. Ninety percent of its high level agents are individuals who had strong links and connections with Tigray, in particular. The rest are volunteers who knew nothing about its true identity or individuals with personal interest. In 1998, a senseless boarder war had erupted between Eritrea and Ethiopia because of a small town named Badme. Hundreds of thousands of innocent lives had perished needlessly. Many left their families to escape the brutal war. What is shocking however is that the border conflict was carefully orchestrated and instigated by the puppet regimes in Asmara and Addis Abeba. The war was conducted ruthlessly. It was a senseless war. For the outsiders, it looked like a border issue. Unfortunately, the war was invented in order to keep both citizens hostage to an endless state of conflict thus securing Tigray-Tigrinya power for an indefinite period of time. During the war, citizens were falsely accused of treason. Some were locked in prison for many years without trial and many were executed. They systematically evicted citizens using threats of violence. Many young women were raped; some committed suicide and others fell into the hands of human traffickers. Thousands of innocent lives have disappeared without a trace and others were killed in poverty. Tigray-Tigrinya erroneous policy made citizens of both countries poor and destitute. Many became homeless and Orphans because of it.

Tigray-Tigrinya: Phase II-divide and rule

Here we go again. While Iyasyas Afeworki and his secret agents from Tigray are vandalizing the state of Eritrea, Ethiopian information minster Bereket Simon, Abay Woldu and Seye Abraha, on their part, are dissecting Ethiopia into many pieces, a plan that was initiated in 1940s. Minster Bereket Simon recently made a comment that his government is willing to help anyone who is persecuted in Eritrea because of his/her ethnic or religious background. (Facts: in Eritrea all citizens are persecuted regardless of their ethnic or religious background). Now, his government is arming and organizing Eritrean opposition groups in Northern part of Ethiopia to oust the government of Iysayas Afeworki. According to Bereket Simon, groups like Democratic Movement for the Liberation of the Eritrean Kunama (DMLEK), Afar Revolutionary Democratic Unity Front (ARDUF) and/or Red Sea Afar Democratic Organization (RSADO) should have the right to self-determination up to secession, if they wish to do so. What does this mean? Civil war! It is a threat against Eritrea that wars and violence will follow if the now/future Eritrean government fails to recognize opposition group’s demand for self determination.

Tigray-Tigrinya: The Trap

Eritrean opposition groups are now armed and trained in Northern part of Ethiopia to fight the regime in Asmara. Similarly, Ethiopian opposition groups are also managed and financed by Iysayas Afeworki to fight the regime in Addis. This is in fact another trap! It is meticulously designed by Tigray-Tigrinya leaders to control, monitor and finally sabotage the activities of both opposition groups before they strike. In the last ten years or so opposition group’s agenda of freedom and democracy has not moved an inch forward due to the manipulation of Tigray-Tigrinya security agents. TPDM (DMHIT), whose main task is to protect and serve the empire of Tigray-Tigrinya, is the only group who is making a substantial progress in power and number (TPDM has been training in a secret location in Eritrea for the last 20 years since 1991 and is directly financed by Isayas Afeworki).

Tigray-Tigrinya: Final Thought

Things will not get better in Ethiopia or Eritrea while Tigray-Tigrinya operation of deception is in power. We have enough evidences to show just how quickly Ethiopia and Eritrea are engulfed by Tigray-Tigrinya made disasters. It created a refugee crisis that has percolated throughout the Sahara desert, Europe and the greater Middle East. Ethiopia and Eritrea under the Tigray-Tigrinya apartheid regime are not the same country you once knew. Both countries are ruled by evil individuals who hate their country, their flag and the people. They claim victory when they see the suffering they have inflicted upon us, citizens. The grim reality is best understood by analyzing the mentality of Tigray-Tigrynia in power, and you need look no further than the network of hundreds of underground prisons spread across Ethiopia and Eritrea to see how evil and barbaric its leaders are. We must therefore act now. Let us all work together to restore the dignity of our people and country.

Isaias Afewerki was born in 1946 in the village of Tselot in Asmara, Eritrea, to parents Afwerki Abraha and Adanesh Berhe. His father, Ato Afwerki, a native of Tselot village in Zoba Maekel, just outside Asmara, was working at a state-owned company, Tobacco Monopoly. His mother, Woizero Adanesh, was from Adidubus village in Zoba Debub. Isaias grew up in Asmara and graduated from Prince Makonnen High School (PMSS) in 1965. After passing the General School Leaving Certificate, he was admitted to the highly competitive College of Engineering at Haile Selassie I University (now called Addis Ababa University) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. However, a year later in September 1966, he decided to join forces engaged in the Eritrean Armed Struggle for Independence.
