XIMBATAM KULLOS, WARAGAYS AND AND GUDELAMHARU ARE INADVERTENTLY ANGERING EJOLIES. I WORRY FOR THEM WHEN THE MESHREFET SHI'T HITS THE FAN.

It is not only because Abiy is from Jimma. Yes, some part of the support comes because he is from Jimma. They know him. And they respect him personally, a tribute not that many Ethiopian politicians have. The lesson we should learn from the recent demonstration in Jimma is ethnic politicians are not doing fine in an area where people of different ethnic groups happily live together. Ethnic politicians might do ok in an area where people of one ethnic group make almost all the residents of the area. Here is why the future does not seem promising to ethnic politicians. As Ethiopia develops, when more roads connect region to region, when more people move to nearby cities, when the interaction between city and rural people become more common than is right now, tribal politicians influence will come to fade. They hang on their dogmas believing Ethiopia will never develop. That is no doubt is a losing bet.

Based on the recent raised chatter, the strength and size of that rally is not something they were expecting. If they are this unaware of his support, it tells me they are nowhere near ready to compete in all the areas they think "belong" to them.
