Debre Eliyas (Amharic ደብረ ዐሊኣስ ) is one of the woredas in the Amhara Region of Ethiopia. Part of the Misraq Gojjam Zone, Debre Eliyas is bordered on the south and west by the Abay River which separates it from the Orthodox Region, on the northwest by the Mirab Gojjam Zone, on the north by Machakel, and on the east by Guzamn. Towns in this woreda include Eliyas my hometown. Debre Eliyas was part of Machakel woreda.

Yoftahe Negussie

Yoftahe Negussie (1894-1947) was born in Muzaelias in the province of Gojam, Ethiopia. He wrote numerous plays, including Misikir, Musho Bekentu, Alem Atalay, Eyayu Mazen, Arbete Tsehay, and Negusu ena Zewdu. Critics writing about Ethiopian drama contend that Negussie's plays celebrated Emperor Haile Selassie, along with Ethiopian history and the Ethiopian Church.
