It has been just two weeks the proposal by Education minster to teach Amharic in Oromia region has been met with round condemnation by ODP and all Oromo fanatics. Mind you all parties were involved in the project to revaluate the education system and to come up with better Educational system then finally on the decision process. However, once it became public all the Oromo fanatics came out ranging from bekele gerba , to jewar and all in between to condem it . Then ODP count not only condemned it made it crisial clear that it will not negotiate with its strong stance against Amharic languge being offered in Oromia. Fast forward two weeks after ODP made this statement made public , the Addis Ababa education office made an announcement that Oromoffia is going to be tought in more than 350 schools. From 1 grade through 8th grade. And it already allocated more than 3 billion birr for this purpose. No public discussion, No national discussion about an imposition by ODP on 7 million Addis Ababian, in a very snaky way. Did any of the political oppositions said anything bout it no . Not ADP, not Azema , not the social democrat --- no one said anything. All Abey, Shimels, Takele uma, Lema megersa all sing about Ethiopia while they push the radical Oromo agenda. We need to support Oromoffia to be a second federal language , but not while they block other languages , mainly Amharic from Oromia region. It is infuriating that no other Political party condomen this lap sided political move by radical Oromos. Either we all have Ethiopia for all of us or we are going to change Tigrian apartheid system by an Oromo apartheid system. It got to stop –don’t know when the so called opposition (enablers) going to grow a spin.

I don’t see anything bad.
Generally it will not have any effect at all. First it will not be effective as student will ignore it.
Second it will give leverage to teach Amharic in galla region!

Yes, they sing about Ethiopia and also implement policies about Ethiopians, in my view. The image of Ethiopia that you might have in your mind could differ from the image of the same country those people you mentioned might have in their mind. Yours is old view, while theirs is the future, and bright future. The future Ethiopia can't find itself at peace while the major chunk of it would be alienated in its own home.

I was impressed today at an opinion expressed about Engineer Takele Uma, who reportedly have said that one of the major policy focus of his administration will be education, and if this is indeed the case then this man is really a bright leader of a great country called Ethiopia.

I do support learning of Amharic but not at the cost of repressing the major chunk of the country's population.

It is the most amazing day. I finally agreed with abaymado. Yes, teaching any language anywhere should not be a concern. Most people who comment in ER should seem to not know Addis. No social engineering could change Addis from being a vibrant city in which every ethnic group feels at home. Addis Abebans have not failed and will not fall for the trap of ethnic politics. If politics had been left to them only , they would have kicked EPDRF fourteen years ago.
The Oromo fanatics who do not want to do with anything tangentially related to the Amharic language assume the village they grew up stayed as it was. They should not count on that.
