The "ethnic demagogues" shouldn't hold folks as hostages; the choice should be made by individual families. If individuals decide not to take Amharic class, no one should force them. The states however, should be required to offer it in every school from 1st grade on so that every Ethiopian can be the PM or the President of Ethiopia if they choose to.

Dr. Abiy, Meles & others like him had that opportunity and are the epitome of an "Ethiopian" as far as languages go. EPRDF government has proposed the same opportunity to every Ethiopian. Who ever opposes that need to be exposed for what they are; ethnic pimps.

The only reason Dr. Abiy, Jawar and others are in the fore front is because they communicate across the board using Amharic. The working language gives everyone to be what they want to be in Ethiopia.

How would we have known Mustafa Omer ("The darling of Neftegna!") possibly the next PM, who lived in exile, the president of Ethiopia’s Somali region, one of the country’s most powerful people existed, if he didn't speak in Amharic?
