What we have lost as a people for the past forty or so years is a bare minimum adherence to what is right and what is wrong. There were no ethicist back then who taught Ethiopians about the virtues of honesty, courage, justice all that, but there was one thing we all Ethiopians had – the fear of God. When one has a fear of God in his heart, his action is coached by his religion moral code. That was a much higher standard of human living. The Marxist ideology that germinated in Ethiopian students movements of the 60’s that continued to be propagated by uneducated military juntas believing in God as opium of the masses. After Derg weyane, which was part and parcel of the student moment) had continued to see religion an extended part of political instrument to manipulate, to control, the Ethiopian people. Weyanes by assigning political cadres in religion institutions they caused unparalleled damage to it. Religion moral codes were perverted by the people who supposed to guard it. So the religion moral code that has served us for centuries exist only superficially. Here is an example of that :
