Congratulations Eritreans and friends of the Eritrean people.
The Human Rights Council resolution on Eritrea was adopted today, despite the call for a vote by Somalia and Eritrea. The resolution was tabled by Australia, Austria, Belgium, France, Germany and The Netherlands.
The vote was in favour - the majority of the Council members voted 'YES' (see picture). This means the Mandate of the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Eritrea is renewed for another year, and the Eritrean human rights situation will be monitored, recorded and presented at the Human Rights Council in Geneva, and the General Assembly in New York.
The Eritrean diplomats lobbied hard and were visibly upset at losing.
