A different statement for the same incident. hmmmm
This is a good opportunity for the Army to independently investigate the killing, make public the findings and finally take responsibility. If this happens, that would be the first time this kind of investigation will happen in Ethiopian history and will hugely improve the acceptance of the Army among the population. Besides, next time the military will think twice before opening fire on civilians. Let's see how they handle this one.
The Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF) opened fire on civilians while escorting construction vehicles in Metema town, Amhara region, western Ethiopia on January 9. The locals of the Ethiopia-Sudan border town demanded to inspect the Tigrayan People’s Liberation Front (TPLF)-owned Sur Construction vehicles, accusing the construction company of smuggling weapons. Smuggled weapons have been contributing to violence between the Amhara and Kimant ethnic groups in Ethiopia. The Ministry of Defense said on January 11 it will investigate the incident.
