Rohrabacher Hails End of Hostilities Between Eritrea Ethiopia

Jul 12, 2018

https://rohrabacher.house.gov/media-cen ... a-ethiopia

WASHINGTON – Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Europe, Eurasia, and Emerging Threats, on Wednesday issued the following statement concerning the new accord between the African nations of Eritrea and Ethiopia:

The peace agreement signed in Asmara, Eritrea, this past weekend by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed of Ethiopia and President Isaias Afwerki of Eritrea ending the conflict between their two nations is an historic milestone. It will benefit both nations, the region, and freedom-loving people everywhere. It is a bold step taken by two courageous leaders. The images of Prime Minister Abiy and President Isaias embracing and of Ethiopians and Eritreans waving each other’s flags inspired and touched the hearts of millions of people around the world. Like Anwar Sadat, who went to Jerusalem in 1977 seeking peace, Prime Minister Abiy took a great risk in reaching out to Eritrea and working out terms for peace. Rightly, President Isaias and the Eritrean people warmly received Prime Minister Abiy and accepted the offer to end decades of conflict. The United States and its allies should applaud this peace pact and help both nations forge a better future for their peoples. Along with President Trump for his efforts in Korea, Prime Minister Abiy and President Isaias should be considered for the Nobel Peace Prize.

This is where Sebhat, Seyoum, Abay both and all the generals must oust Debresiol and the moron Getachew Reda from their seats. Sebhat and Seyoum must mobilize all Tigrayans from all woreda and arm them. Call all generals to summon to the organization keepers of the above woyenti and catch Debresiol, Getachew Reda, Sirqi Arkebe and other traitors.

Shabait.com: Q & A: Eri-Ethio Women Government Officials

Written by Billion Temesghen |

Wednesday, 11 July 2018

Sunday morning, the 8th of July, has been a historical day for Eritrea and Ethiopia. After a hearty official welcome, the Ethiopian delegation, led by the Ethiopian Prime Minister, Dr. Abiy Ahmed, headed to the Presidential Palace in Asmara.

The women in government of both countries were sitting and chatting around a table in the garden of the Presidential Palace, under the warm sun and soft breathe of Asmara, when they allowed me to interview them in connection to the historic day of peace and love between the sisterly countries. Here follows their thoughts and messages of congratulations.

•• Minister Askalu Menkerios. Mister of Tourism, Eritrea.

• Congratulations on such a day Minister.

Congratulations to us all!

My wish is that the world sees and accepts that the only thing Eritreans yearn for is peace. Both of us despise of hatred and hurt. Moreover, Eritreans have been always unwavering in the stance of peace, liberty and respect. In fact, respect and equality, is the emblem of Eritreans no matter where and what.

The official welcoming ceremony of Prime Minster Abiy and his delegation has been incredible. Eritreans gathered from all over the city and vicinities have been out in the avenues of our capital waving flags of both Eritrea and Ethiopia out of respect for the Prime Mister who came with the news of acceptance of peace. I am afraid my words won’t be enough in expressing the atmosphere of joy that is dominating Asmara. And just like my people I also want to sincerely welcome our Ethiopian counterparts, our dear brothers and sisters.

• Like you said, Minister, peace, liberty and respect have been notions extremely dear to the people of Eritrea. So much so, that heavy prices have been made in order to attain and sustain them. You were a young freedom fighter and later on advanced to several political posts… from a young enthusiast ready to die for freedom alongside thousands of young Eritreans to a political figure… You have seen it all. What is the journey of Eritreans towards peace?

I am an Eritrean. I never did anything more than any other Eritrean. Being Eritrean is a duty we all fulfill to the maximum of our human capacity. And so did I. It gives me utmost pleasure to have walked the journey “towards peace”, as you call it. Eritreans never wanted war and destruction. Our forefathers have held great history in being adamant for our country’s Independence and our people’s unity foreseeing any diversities. For sovereignty, Eritrean forefathers turned even to the UN. Many called the Eritrean armed struggle for Independence, a rebellion against the federation. But it was not. It was a unique humanitarian revolution in which Eritreans fought for principles of freedom, equality and respect.

However, Eritrea has been a victim of foreign policies and mockeries to our own identity. The armed struggle for Independence and, later on, for sovereignty are instances that demonstrate Eritrean resilience. I hope “resilience” fits to be the answer of the question you just asked me.

Congratulations to the Eritrean and Ethiopian people. I hope we jointly move forward on a new chapter of long-lasting love and understanding. The last twenty years have greatly harmed the Eritrean people and now what I am wishing most for is peace of mind, especially to Eritrean youth. These young men and women who welcomed the Ethiopian delegation today, were children of five to six years old when Eritrea was first liberated. We promised them peace and freedom when we thought it was over in 1991.

Instead, they had to answer the call of National Sovereignty selflessly giving their youth and lives. But now I believe it is really over. I want to dearly thank the Eritrean youth for serving its people through better and worst with altruistic love. And I wish for them a stable and bright future so they can lead their lives to their desires. Eritrea and Eritreans are lucky to have a youth as rare as ours.

Congratulations!

•• Mrs. Keria Ibrahim. Speaker of the House of Federation, Ethiopia.

• Welcome to Eritrea. Do you feel at home?

I feel very welcome and extremely grateful to be here in Eritrea in the warmth of our Eritrean brothers and sisters. The longing and desire for love were truly reflected in the way Eritreans greeted us today. I didn’t expect every Eritrean in Asmara to be out in the streets to greet us. I knew Eritrea’s culture is welcoming but to actually be at the receiving end of such honor feels different. Thank you for welcoming us with such honor. It has been emotional since the minute we landed. People run alongside the motorcade we were in for more than ten kilometers. Both sides of the avenues were packed. Praise and ovations came from every corner and I am speechless. All I can say is ‘thank you’.

• Your Excellency, since the Prime Minister’s answer for peace, what have been the sentiments of the Ethiopian people as regards to the peace signing agreement which has brought us all together on this historic day?

Today’s event has taught me, us, that the people of Eritrea and Ethiopia shouldn’t be separated. There is so much love amongst them. Today is a remarkable day. The welcome we received today shows that the Eritrean people has been eagerly looking forward to this day. And the reaction of the Ethiopian people to Prime Minister, Abiy Admed’s news of readiness to peace agreements was also emotional. Therefore these two people shouldn’t have been even separated for ten minutes let alone twenty years. We learned that the outcome of twenty years long segregation was a big mistake and that the war was a huge mistake that required heavy and heartbreaking prices from both the Eritrean and Ethiopian people. There is no good that comes from war and hatred. H.E Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s stance on this has brightened the hearts of Ethiopians and the willingness of Eritrea, followed by the invitation of H.E President Isaias Afwerki, has made this day possible. My wishes of growth, peace and stability go to the brotherly people of Eritrea and Ethiopia.

•• Minster Fowzia Hashim. Minister of Justice, Eritrea.

•How do you feel about being part of this historic day in the history of Eritrea and Ethiopia?

Similar to what my colleagues have been saying, I am, too, exceedingly happy and proud to be witnessing a day we Eritreans have been awaiting for long. I believe households were empty this morning. From the airport to the center of the city there wasn’t a spot that wasn’t crowded. And such a day seemed so far not long ago due to interference of all kinds that prevented Eritrea from full filling its ambitions of self-drive, development and regional harmony.

• Speaking on grounds of lawful directives, how would you explain the Eritrean people’s awareness on the conflict between Ethiopia and Eritrea?

The uncalled for “interferences” witnessed as the conflicts between Ethiopia and Eritrea evolved were secondary agents that created a gap of segregation between the two countries. Had there been integrity and respect of mutual principles and agendas, maybe, it wouldn’t have taken twenty years for these people to reunite again.

However, things have turned for a better future now. With mutual consideration and esteem, I am, like all Eritreans, certain that both countries will console each other in a future of shared compassion and brotherhood.

If I am to tell you about law’s awareness and practices, I am to appreciate the Eritrean community for owning great knowledge of law and its practices. It is incontestable truth that our forefathers understood their lawful right of self-rule on their lawful proper land and fought for it for the people to live in it in harmony beyond any cultural and religious differences. Close to two centuries later, now, still the awareness is there and self-control to abide by law is unparalleled.
I hope the future of Eritrea and Ethiopia brings stability to the Horn of Africa. There is a lesson for young Eritreans to learn from their forefathers and mothers.

•• Ms. Mufteriat Kamil, Speaker of the House of Peoples’ Representative, Ethiopia.

• Welcome to Eritrea. Can you say something about this historic day?

It has truly been a remarkable day both for the Eritrean and the Ethiopian people. The welcoming ceremony we were received by today shows the respect the Eritrean people have for the Ethiopian people. Being part of such regard makes me feel proud to have such loving neighbors. The Ethiopian Prime Minister, H.E Dr. Abiy Ahmed, has been looking forward to this day and the response of Eritrea’s President, H.E Isaias Afwerki, has welcomed it sincerely. And so here we are today representing message of love from the Ethiopian people, which has been received with utmost respect by the Eritrean people. My experience today in Eritrea has been exceptional and exceedingly unique.

• From your point of view what does the future look like for the people of Eritrea and Ethiopia?

These two people are people that love each other. The suffering that came out of these past years has hurt them greatly. I am most certain that our leaders’ talks and desires for love and peace will lead both of the people to economic and social development. Our future will be of peace, growth and democracy.

TheFinancialTimes.com: Eritrean potash deposit company readies London listing.

Neil Hume, Natural Resources Editor

https://www.ft.com/content/ae90d7ae-85c ... 565ec55929

July 12, 2018

A company developing a large potash deposit in Eritrea has announced plans to list in the UK, testing the appetite of investors for ‘greenfield’ mining projects in Africa.

Danakali Limited said joining the London Stock Exchange would help it raise the cash it needs to fund development of the Colluli deposit.

Analysts at Numis reckon Danakali, which is currently listed in Australia, needs to raise around $300m of debt and equity to develop the first phase of the project.

“The LSE listing provides us with additional access to sophisticated investors in London and internationally with a strong appetite for advance stage development projects and a good understanding of African mining and resource environment,” said Danakali’s executive chairman Seamus Cornelius.

In the initial phase of operation, Colluli should produce more than 470,000 tonnes a year of sulphate of potash (SOP), a premium grade of fertiliser that can be used on high value fruit, nuts and teas. Output could rise to almost 950,000 tonnes if the company decides to go ahead with a second phase of development.

Colluli is being developed as a joint venture with the Eritrea’s state mining company and Danakali has already struck an ‘offtake’ agreement with EuroChem, one of the world’s biggest fertiliser companies. Under the 10-year deal, EuroChem has agreed to buy at least 87 per cent of Colluli’s output from the first phase of development.

SOP currently trades at a premium $260 a tonne over the more widely available muriate of potash (MOP), which is used on grains.

“As a straightforward open pit . . . Colluli has low associated technical risk,” analysts at Numis wrote in a report published this week. “The deposit is also located only 230km from the Red Sea port of Massawa.”

Danakali, which expects to list later this month, joins a growing number of fertiliser companies trading in London, including Sirius Minerals, which is developing a large deposit under a national park in Yorkshire, and Congo-based Kore Potash.

Numis is acting as financial adviser to Danakali’s listing.

There is no way the TPLF leadership remains United. That the leadership will remain United means Tigreans as a whole are united around TPLF's politics. That is not true. That is what the TPLF leaders want Ethiopians to believe. When the TPLF political elites have run the Ethiopian political machine , it is difficult to assume even a small fraction of Tigreans oppose them openly. If they had done, they would have subjected them to harsh treatment than other Ethiopians might face. The TPLF politicians constantly have tried to sell to Ethiopians that TPLF and the people of Tigray are the same. Well, Dr Abiy implied in one of his speech that is not the case.

I agree with Abiy. He works with them. He knows them well. I believe he knows the Adwa and Axum domination of Tigreans politics will breed resentment one day. That one day will become sooner if Ethiopia is on her way to change. She is. And factions being born in the TPLF leadership therefore is unavoidable. Finally, the old guards will lose because Ethiopians have rejected their politics. I do not believe they have a fighting chance much longer. It will soon become that they speak politics in the past tense.

A number of diplomats and academicians have hailed the UAE government's efforts to foster security and stability around the world.

They praised the role His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, has played in effecting a rapprochement between Ethiopia and Eritrea - two African nations that have been at war for almost 20 years.

The UAE mediation between Ethiopia and Eritrea has resulted in the signing of a joint friendship and peace declaration. The two countries have agreed to re-establish trade relations, open their embassies and jointly develop Eritrea's Red Sea port. They have also decided to reinstate the Ethiopian flights to Eritrea starting next week.

UAE's Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has welcomed the reestablishment of cordial relations between Ethiopia and Eritrea, stressing that such an agreement will positively reflect on boosting security and stability in both countries, the Horn of Africa and the MENA region.

Sheikh Abdullah voiced the UAE's aspiration to ensure a durable peace between the two nations.

Workneh Gebeyehu, Ethiopian Foreign Minister, said the historic accord between his country and Eritrea was a result of the extensive efforts made by His Highness Shaikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and thanked him for the seminal role he played in the diplomatic breakthrough.

Dr Anwar Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, said the UAE has become a key partner in the Horn of Africa, ahead of all other Arab nations that have a presence in such a vital region.

In a series of tweets on Tuesday, Dr Gargash said: "Maintaining political communication with the Horn of African countries has both risks and opportunities, but it is essential because the Horn of Africa is important for the security and progress of our Arab world. The long term policy the UAE is pursuing is gaining respect in the Horn of Africa and internationally."

Talking about the UAE foreign policy, Dr Gargash said: "Our foreign policy is clear and transparent, which is based on credibility. First, our policy is Arab whose objectives are moderation, stability, counter-terrorism, development and common progress. Those objectives make the UAE a welcome partner in the region."

Meanwhile, the UAE Red Crescent is continuing its efforts to support the humanitarian and development activities in Ethiopia. It is building 1,000 homes for the displaced people and completed the third phase of distribution of humanitarian relief materials.

Eritrea-Ethiopia: New ray of hope and opportunities ahead

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-YCTZ5UaBw1Y/W ... itrea2.jpg

By Benny B.

I woke up early that Sunday for some reason, checked my phone for news of the homeland, and I was glued to watching Eri-Tv the whole day digesting the good news of peace for the Eritrean people. Throughout the day I sobbed multiple times watching the mothers and great people of Asmara celebrating this great leader messenger of peace arrive in our beautiful city. This was the day we have been dreaming off where the truth prevailed. At the same time, I was reminded of our celebration when Meles Zenawi came to Asmara back in the 1990’s, however, I decided to celebrate the moment at the same time not forget what happened yesteryears.

Eritreans had a myth that the TPLF of Tigray would be the friendliest group in Ethiopia to us back in the 1990’s. Eritreans and its leadership (EPLF) supported TPLF to come to power in Addis, however that myth has been shattered into pieces the last twenty years, and laid to rest in its grave the last three months. I watched the Bahir Dar, Addis demonstration in support of Dr. Abiy and I watched our beautiful flag waved by Ethiopians and I couldn’t believe it, but realized this is special time that will herald for the aspiration of the Eritrean people to see a peaceful neighborhood, so we can start where we left off on transforming Eritrea into a developed country.

My gratitude to the Oromo and Amhara parties leadership in EPRDF for bringing forth a leader and man of peace in Dr. Abiy Ahmed. This is happening because of their courageous leadership which will be remembered for a long time. Also, my appreciation to friends in the Trump administration and KSA+UAE leadership (Trump 2020 you got my vote for not continuing the failed Obama policies for the horn African region).

We have been dealing with a minority junta in Addis who hated to see us prosper as a country, and I heard the new Ethiopian PM say “it would be great to see Eritrea prosper…” in his Asmara speech, which is the total opposite of the TPLF junta which preached daily that what is good for Eritrea is bad for them. They declined to use our ports because in their back warded thinking that would benefit us.

It would be a waste of time to go back and continue the blame game of yesterday now. It is a high time of supporting each other to march to the lane of progress, democracy and prosperity (medemamer Zemen) Things that we can do to help each other prosper in the short and long term
joint projects:

1. Put the pillars down on the border and finalize the demarcation process that will guarantee peace forever between the two people (This is a MUST for sustainable peace, and as an honor to our martyrs). The international community is willing to help with this endeavor now and the sooner the better. I understand the Ethiopian government needs a breathing room on this to tame the anti-peace (aynachew dem yemelaw yeken Jiboch) left over groups of woyane and derg in that country, but it needs to get started with a time line of completion within one year. Besides, this will help the new PM consolidate power and advance his reform agenda by pacifying his internal threats by showing who is really in charge in their country.

2. Start people to people cooperation’s between border communities on both sides of border especially those that will be impacted or displaced by the border demarcation. National security of both countries cannot hang in the air for fear of inconvenience for few villages here and there. Most of the current residents of Badme are TPLF implanted in the last twenty years.

3. Open the exchange of cultures between both peoples, open the border for trade among the local people, open universities for students of both countries, …

4. Build a rail road to Dallol of Ethiopia to a new port (that I would name Abiy port) to export the huge potash deposit there and this rail road would serve our Calluli potash for export too. Build a potash processing plant at the new port to process the raw material and export the final product

5. Expand Asseb port or build a new one that will serve southern part of Ethiopia and Massawa for the norther part of Ethiopia; we can build more ports if needed. Invite the Chinese, Arabs and others to invest in this endeavor.

6. Declare Asseb, Massawa and all Eritrean ports free trade zones for Ethiopians and other customers

7. Restart the Asseb refinery to process crude oil (imported for now, until we start pumping our own around asseb)

8. Build a joint two hydro dams (that I would call peace hydro plants) at the western Eritrean and Ethiopian boarder along the Settit river

9. Create a fair exchange rate for Nacfa and Birr currencies (avoid the use of third party currency) for trade

10. Build resorts and cruise lines along the red sea cost for Eritreans, Ethiopians, and other tourists; since Ethiopians will be allowed to pay in their birr currency for services (no need for exchange) that will give them a fair advantage over other tourists who will pay in other currencies. Allow wealthy foreigners to build mansions, vacation homes and own real estate in the Eritrean coast.

11. Thousands of Ethiopians have lost 200K plus soldiers in Eritrea in the last 50 years and allow their relatives to visit and pay respect in areas where their fathers, grandfathers or friends died. This will be good for both people to remind us all what war can do, and what peace can do so they can stop their obsession of their fathers for Eritrea.

12. After the unjust sanctions are lifted Eritrea needs to rebuild its army, air force, and navy. Having a strong defense forces “peace through strength” will bring lasting peace and respect and avoid the temptation of aggression from future Ethiopian leaders (my father told me ayEmenun eyom
eziom seb)

13. And finally Congrats to the Eritrean people betri hakis tiketin ember aytisiberin, you have won the cold war of Eritrea (EPLF) and Ethiopia (TPLF). Kedami Woyane is thrown to the graveyards by its handles, and the handlers have hadish feres to run in place mebalietina yigbero (yimesil).

I Pray for Isaias Afewerki’s health and wisdom to think of building his legacy and develop the next generation of Eritrean leaders (groom the Eritrean Abiy’s for tomorrow)

With peace and strong visionary leadership, this is all possible and I want to believe in the leadership of H.E Isaias Afewerki and H.E Dr. Abiy Ahmed for the good of my beloved people.

May God give peace and sense of accomplishment to the heroes who are defending their country in the trenches Eternal Glory to ours Martyrs

May God bless our leaders, and our people
