Dawi the Tigrawi,

Tell us if the money you Weyane claim to have swindled from Karuturi was worth the destruction of an entire lush green forest-- in an area the size of Belgium, and the forced expulsion of half a million indigenous people from their ancestral land at gun point, many of whom got shot and killed for their refusal to leave? Was the money worth the Karma making its way back to your native Tigray, is what we would like to know?

Abdisa,

There was no swindling here; he failed to perform according to the agreements and the land was taken back period. That is not the only place where Karauturi lost business; his Indian operations are also in trouble. He took a calculated risk and failed. If it was easy you and I would have done it. That is why you're sitting here and complaining because you prefer soft life in a developed world. Karauturi got his MBA here in the US and was looking for an adventure in Africa. He got it, had a nice time and now he is back.

Development need to take place to improve the standard of living of poor people. Commercial Farming in less populated area is appropriate. That is what EPRDF set out to do; attract FDI from where ever they can get it; any sane government would try to do that. It isn't easy for governments to do that because the issue is controversial; mind you, it ain't for the faint hearted neo-liberals; you need to be a "developmental state" with a back bone.

If people have grievances of how the "'villagization" was conducted over there, it needs to be investigated and resolved by the authorities. If not it will become another Addis Ababa situation.

Change is not easy and it is hard work; just like the expansion of Addis Ababa, if the people have problems they will force the government to scrap the development plan all together. In 2014 Ethiopia has announced it will scrap plans to expand the capital into surrounding farms after widespread opposition from the public. People in Gambela can follow the same suit; it is there land.

Don't sit here and talk like the Oakland Institure Voyeurs; who talk about "ancestoral land" crap. In Ethiopia the land belongs to the people; that means even if Karauturi developed it, after the lease ends the people of Gambela decide what to do with the land. In other words, they can take it back and do what ever they want. It is not like in US where you're gentrified and thrown out of your land and neighborhood for life!

IMO, all land grabbing issues can be resolved without blood shed.

If you have taken land using your "ethnic" or "party" connection and now has became an over night millionaire per Lemma Megeresa, it is only until someone takes you to court and exposes the corruption to the future administration. In Oromia today, those who grabbed land by corruption and financed it through connection, can be asked to return back the land. I have heard they have already started doing that. 8)

That is how you clean the hard working Tigreans & others who earned their living from those that took advantage of their "ethnic" affiliation. Take the land and businesses away from the once that used their "ethnic affiliation" after the due process in court; It is that simple. The new Woyane leadership have indicated of going in that direction of cleaning house.

That kind of operation by EPRDF shall clean house and inspire Ethiopians to do genuine development.

Cheers!

Gearhead, that laughter is actually on you. Have you even read the article? Lying & cooking the books, can only get you so far. You'll get caught one day. It's a mathematical certainty.

Abdisa,

This data you posted is a good reference to expose EPRDF's performance:

The following is taken from an article written a couple of days ago. Notwithstanding quality of education, the basic literacy achievement in Ethiopia is astounding by any standard. In fact, if anything brings the demise of EPRDF, it's going to be this remarkable achievement.

[[..Government statistics are not wholly reliable—the ruling party does a good job of steering clear of most international surveys, making regional comparison difficult—but many of the headline figures are impressive regardless. Few governments in Africa—or elsewhere, for that matter—spend as much of their revenues on education as that of Ethiopia. In a continent which today directs a higher proportion of government expenditure towards the sector than any other—18.4%—Ethiopia has consistently been in the top rank for the past decade. Between 2000 and 2013 it almost doubled the share of its budget allocated to education, from 15% to 27%. For example, the United States’ federal government spends just over 6%.

Measured in terms of access to primary education (which is now free), the results are striking. Ethiopia now has one of the highest enrollment rates in Africa, up from the nadir in the early 1990s when it had one of the world’s lowest. The number of primary schools almost tripled from 1996 to 2015, while student enrollment grew from less than 3 million to over 18 million within the same period—almost universal. Youth literacy meanwhile jumped from 34% in 2000 to 52% in 2011...]]https://ecadforum.com/2017/12/28/ethiop ... in-crisis/

The starting base of Eritrea is similar; how come it's even beating our "foe" Egypt now? :P

The "root" was the same but the improvement of Eritrea has to do with HIM rewarding Eritrea after the war which ended up backfiring to create his demise and consequently, the down fall of Greater Ethiopia as the world knew it.

The imperial regime of Ethiopia favored Eritrea in terms of construction of schools, hospitals, roads, etc. at the expense of other provinces. Before that, Eritreans were denied to pursue education beyond the three years of rudimentary elementary school in which they were taught about the greatness of Italy and the Roman race and the inferiority of Eritreans by the Italians.

I guess HIM wanted a short cut to development using the Eritrean colonial experience base. He was mistaken on that calculation indeed. He constructed many schools, including many high schools and other institutions of learning so much so making them among the best represented in institutions of higher education next to the capital city Addis Ababa.

Not to mention Eritreans controlled the scaling heights of the Ethiopian economy in the beginning by using their little 3rd grade (Italian worshiping) literacy compared to the rest of the population all the way to 1998. What is amazing is all these did not make Eritreans lessen their visceral hatred for Ethiopia and whatever Ethiopia stood for. Eritrean nationalists worked tirelessly to break up Ethiopia and finally succeeded.

Dawi the Tigrawi,

If both Ethiopia and Eritrea shared the same literacy rate of 29% in 1990, and today the literacy rate for Ethiopia is still lagging behind at 39% (one of the lowest in the world), whereas independent Eritrea has scored one of Africa's top literacy rates of over 90%, .... wouldn't you say that independence was one of the best things that ever happened to Eritreans?

I mean, look at your Tigray that produces nothing but low IQ trolls like Awash who can't string a sentence together, yet claim to be on a par with the intellectually superior Eritreans. Doesn't that give you a reason to pause and reflect inward to find out where you had failed in that regard? You can't build a nation based on lies and cooked up figures. Does your religion in Tigray prevent you from being honest to yourselves?

Abdi,

If Ethiopia had the 29% base in 1990 for the whole country. Eritrea had something closer to Addis Ababa rate thanks to his Majesty? The Addis rate has to be lower.

The "39% of today" for Ethiopia was taken in 2007; it has to be a lot lower as we speak.

By the way Literacy as a whole for Eritrea today is about 74% and Ethiopia is 50%.

Eritrea is still riding high on HIM jump start. As HIM made Eritrea in par with Addis, today's Addis's literacy rate has to be a bit higher than Eritrea as whole.

Say anything about EPRDF but, you can't touch EPRDF in the business of spreading education in Ethiopia; they are second to none in Africa. Quality is a different story!

HIM's effort may not be in vain when one sees folks like Prof. Bereket Habte Selassie the one who wrote Eritrean constitution reversing his anti-Ethiopian positon.

I'm amused by your new-found love for Haile Selassie, albeit for cheap political expediency. :P
Perhaps the reason why Haile Selassie left you Tigrayans alone was because you people are known to worship kings like him as "god." Let me show you what your "god" did to the Eritrean people for their refusal to worship him as such, for they strongly believe that doing so is the ultimate sin against the Almighty God in Heaven whom they devoutly worship.

Haile Selassie was hanging Eritreans for their refusal to worship him as "god."

On 11 July of 1967 the Eritrean villages of Eilet and Gumhot were burned, and 30 young men tied up and burned alive inside a house. Five other villages were burned over the following days, 51 people killed. 6,000 domestic animals were killed. According to reports Haile Selassie's soldiers singled out camels for slaughter, because they were vital for transport. Wolde Giorgis (1987:82) also cited those soldiers slaughtering cattle, eating what they wanted, and then leaving the rest to rot. He adds that sometimes soldiers would kill cattle just to get the livers.

In November 1967, almost all the villages of Senhit 174 in all were destroyed by Haile Selassie soldiers from the Second Ethiopia Army Division. The army ordered the people to gather in one place, where they were bombed by air force planes.

Asmat: Haile Selassie's army opened fire on a wedding party, killing a number of people.

In 1967, over 40 men were slit on the neck in front of their children and wives at Misyam

The August 1967 wanton killings and burning of the villages of Ailet, Asus, Weqiro, Figret, ShebaH, Gedged, Gemhot, Metkel-Abet and many others.

In the summer-autumn of 1967, Haile Selassie's army carried out killings and burning in the highlands of Eritrea, wiping out entire villages in the Hazemo-Hazo valleys and plains, at Fishey-Merara, Deg’A, Arebet, Diyat, Timza’e, Mai Chada, Endazmach-Ogbit and other localities. These were followed by grisly massacres like the one at Misyam where the over 40 year old men were slit on the neck in front of their children and wives.

In 1969, marshal law was proclaimed, as armed resistance became stronger. Haile Selassie used to say that ‘We need the land but not the people'. And his soldiers also used to chant "እምቢ ያለ ሰው ጥይት ኣጕርሰው!" as they went on a killing spree. Haile Selassie first attacked the lowland Eritreans, and gradually the whole Eritrea was on fire. In the lowlands, villages were burned to ashes and its inhabitants slaughtered, and some children were found sucking the breast of their dead mothers.

Abdi,

If you want to go there, let us go and see your HIM who over looked and covered up to win you over. He neglected the true patriots of Tigrai and others and we are paying for that today.

That is the untold story Ethiopians paid; violent decimation of 720,000 Ethiopian citizens by Italian fascists and the more than 100,000 Eritrean askaris who were instruments of Italian fascist army that bayoneted pregnant women and hanged Ethiopian patriots while Italian pilots rained mustard gas on the defenseless people of Ethiopia.

There is no excuse for what HIM government did in Eritrea even though he felt betrayed; as a dictator, he didn't consult the Ethiopian people when he covered up the crimes of Eritreans during fascist Italian invasion nor during his own crimes against Eritreans while ruling over them.

Looking how conflicted & pained Prof. Bereket is today, a man who HIM raised as his own, that served under HIM Admn. and Isaias's administration later on, shows the delima of Eritreans towards Ethiopia. You can't live with Ethiopia and can't live without Ethiopia & vise versa for that matter.

Today Eritreans who still see Ethiopia as their archenemy continue to use their venomous pen spewing hate and spreading divisive Italian colonial ideas on us. None of us wanted to ask why their hatred is so pervasively omnipresent. It never occurred us to ask ourselves what is it that makes Eritreans abhor and hate Ethiopian identity so much. Why would not they see us just as neighbors even long after they chose to secede from Ethiopia? Why are they fixated on Ethiopia? When will Eritreans stop their ill designs on Ethiopia? When will their negative obsession with Ethiopia stop? Since the creation of Eritrea in 1890, it not only served as the instrument of the evil machination of Italian colonialists but also successfully served as instrument of Ethiopia’s deconstruction by serving as proxy or pawns in the anti-Ethiopian war Arab nationalists such as Egypt.

Today Eritrea is opposed to one of our tickets out of poverty, the GERD, siding with Egyptian chauvinists!

If all those questions had come from someone who wholeheartedly believed in 'ethiopianism'- whatever that is- all your questions would've been gladly answered and your false assertions debunked.

Now stop pointing at us, to give the impression that you're an ethiopian. You chose not to be, when you opted for a Tgray Republic and sacrificed untold numbers of non- tegaru to achieve and failed. Wearing the Ethiopian garb at this late hour, makes you look ridiculous.

Now, Eritreans and Ethiopians, - collectively- are telling you to take a hike.

When you start seeing Eritreans through the clouded prism of Professor Bereket Habte Selassie's identity crisis emanating from having children from an Ethiopian wife, you're committing the cardinal sin of painting Eritrea, a country of more than 7 million people, with a broad brush and branding them as if their lives are still irrevocably bound to a tragic past. As far as the Eritreans are concerned, they have moved on with their lives keeping their heads up high, never succumbing to the urge for vengeance, nor falling victims to past historical injustices. 8)

I have a theory (mind you this is only a theory,) and my theory is that .. about 10 years ago, President Isaias Afewerki was holding a cabinet level meeting to discuss on what to do with the incessant barking of the Weyane regime. The cabinet members offered different suggestions, from taking direct military measures, to clandestine operations....etc. :?:

Then the President stood up from his chair and said, "we are done with the weyane! They are as dead as a door nail! They're not worth a drop of Eritrean blood. Its time to feed their corpses to the Egyptian dogs!"

When a cabinet member asked the President on how they would go about that, he explained, "let's start building dams-- hundreds of small to mid size dams across this great country of ours, and when the green-eyed weyane see that, not to be outdone, they will one-up the competition by building a MONSTER dam along the Nile River which is guaranteed to ignite anger in Egypt and the Arab world, triggering a massive military response, the likes of which the world has never seen before."

Sure enough, a few years later the cabinet members started watching the tiny seed President Isaias had planted in weyane's mind started to grow to fruition, and they couldn't contain their laughter when in 2011 Meles Zenawi announced the plan to build the monster dam.

In a sense, someone with a higher IQ has planted the seed of GERD in your small mind and made you to believe that it was your own idea. So the GERD can be said its your Tigray's Frankenstein monster-- which means that you gave life to an idea that someone had planted in your mind without knowing that the monster you have created will eventually spell your own demise. Zmeles,

This is not personal, it is a fact that Ethiopians warmly embraced Eritreans as lost brothers & sisters after the Second World War and welcomed them with open arms.

The weakness of Haile Selassie was his tenderness towards Eritrean Ethiopians who were close to him as advisers. Not to mention, those who defected from the fascist army of Mussolini and fought alongside Ethiopian patriots as well.

He just didn't realize the magnitude of 100,000 fascist askaris trained by the fascists. Their capacity of destroying him and breaking up Ethiopia.

This post-war regime of Ethiopia that lasted till 1974 tried to cover up the heinous records of the Eritrean collaborators (whose heinous records against Ethiopia exceeded all other collaborators, including the records of Ethiopian collaborators in its magnitude) something that no self-respecting nation would do.

In war-torn Europe, those who fought alongside the Nazi’s and fascists did not go scot-free, they were rather made to face justice for collaborating with Nazis and Fascists. The children of Nazi and Fascist collaborators were not allowed to be proud of the mercenary role of their parents.

Eritreans, such as the flip flop, Bereketab Habteselassie was attorney general of Ethiopia during the imperial regime; he also wrote the secessionist Eritrea's "constitution". Now no he is back to square one. What is up with that?

I won't be surprised if Isaias does what Prof. Bereket did but, the suspense is killing us in the mean time. I for one don't know what Isaias is going to do. Do you?

Abdisa,

I enjoyed your last response.

The thing about GERD is, it's something most Ethiopians will be proud of. It doesn't look good for Eritrean Government to oppose it. I have no doubt most Eritreans would choose to support it.
For god sake, Sudan is standing with Ethiopia for building that monster of a Power.

Off course, the chauvinists don't want to be equals with us; so they want to deny our national right to develop our resources; they don't want the perception of Ethiopia/Ethiopians being in charge of the Nile even though it benefits them as well.

Let me tell you something, when we went to see the "Mystery of the Nile" documentary about 10 years ago, in the IMAX theater, met the makers of the documentary, signing books, can't tell you how proud we were.

Even though I new Ethiopia is the source and have visited lake Tana, the documentary was still exciting.

What was most amazing is, at the end of the documentary 100s of people in the theater looked as if some thing hit them, when they realized that the source of the Nile was Ethiopia. You can just read the reactions in the deafening silence of the audience when that was announced in the documentary. 8)

Off course I was looking around so uplifted, carrying my head high in the air & eventually going forward to get my book signed. That was one exciting experience as an Ethiopian in this country for me. I am sure all red blooded Ethiopians would feel the same way. I like my children and their children to feel that same way when GERD finished. Meles will be remembered forever just for putting a corner stone to create that exhilarating feeling in our life time alone; that Ethiopian Renaissance indeed!

Please don't be mocking the GERD; that is my problem with you and Prof. Al. Most Ethiopian intellectuals in the opposition support GERD even though they have differences with EPRDF probably for a good reason.

After GERD is finished Ethiopians not only generate millions as income to fight poverty but, will have the largest lake with fish, tourism & what have you. The perception of Ethiopia will change for ever; that has multiplier effect in other areas. Off course Sudan shall be an Oasis & Egypt will have sustainable source of water. Ethiopia as a regional power and a middle income country shall take care of the source on her own, by making it green more than ever for generations to come.

Think about it, the Egyptians using our left over run, harnessed the power of the Nile by building the Aswan High Dam. This massive structure, almost 4 kilometers long, provides enough electricity to power half of Egypt. It also increased the cultivable land of Egypt by 30%.

GERD will do much, much better than Aswan Dam. Envision that!

Cheers!

Nice talking with you as always!

Re: IMF Economic Reports, Another Way For Ethiopia To Attack Eritrea.

Post by Dawi » 01 Jan 2018, 02:20

“the pot calling the kettle black.”! :P

Abdisa you're very funny - Do you really think this will challenge my view of:

"The thing about GERD is, it's something most Ethiopians will be proud of".

Not at all! If anything Woyane should be blamed for not learning from the mistakes of the "master" of lies, who helped create it as a liberation movement, Shaebia that is!

Such illegal transactions are second to nature to Eritrean government, that is why it is on UN sanctions for life.

At least not normal for Woyane; so it is good they negotiated to avoid embarassment.

Look at that face of the Eritrean Diplomat? Imagine that old man being dragged to court and get kicked out of Canada! It happened.

In the following, Canada expelled an Eritrean diplomat after he was caught using his consulate in Toronto as a fundraising front for the repressive African regime and its military in violation of international sanctions.

The following is another one:

Concerns that the Eritrean embassy in London is using coercion or illicit means to collect the tax – such as refusing diaspora members basic consular services if they fail to pay it – have led the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) to raise the matter with the Eritrean authorities on at least four occasions over the past four years.
