Look at somaliland, Kenya, Ghana, nigeria, india etc vs west Africa, Eritrea and Zomalia!
Also many home grown like Ethiopia, democracy became elusive!
Forget the Arab theocrats, the west concluded they will never be democratized and all investment should go to Democratic israel.

Yes, they do. Your observation is right.Odie wrote: ↑13 Dec 2024, 16:42Look at somaliland, Kenya, Ghana, nigeria, india etc vs west Africa, Eritrea and Zomalia!

One of the complaints of Somaliland on the referendum was that it accused Italian Somalia of corruption in elections, inflating election results. Therefore, denounced the referendum and withdrew.
Democratic practice in Britain is the oldest in Europe. Upon independence, the British Commonwealth Association requires each nation to hold democratic elections and respect freedom of the press. Even military dictatorships, though discouraged most of the times, but they happen, they keep freedom of the press and often relinquish power to civilians at the earliest time possible. example: Ghana, Nigeria, Fiji, etc.
Ethiopia is a stand alone, a free standing country, without cultural association with its closest cultural and linguistic Middle East groups, nor with its present king makers such as Britain's Commonwealth or France's le Francophones. Ethiopia is also not a member of the East African Economic Association that comprised Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania now expanded its membership to include Somalia, Rwanda, Burundi and the DRC.
Ethiopia enjoys its lonliness with all its disadvantages.

Ethiopians have a dictator culture like Eritreans the people also worship government bs they are used to theocracy. That is why Democracy in Ethiopia became elusive the same way as in Arab countries.
