In 2018, Djibouti terminated UAE's 30-year port operation contract in favor of China. Angry UAE's revenge against Djibouti was to have Ethiopia stop using the Djibouti port, and use the UAE operated Berbera port in Somaliland instead. The distance between Addis Ababa and Djibouti's port is 559 kilometers. And the distance between Berbera port and Addis Ababa is 756 kilometers (200 kilometers longer). Somalia is not happy with Ethiopia using its port, which it views as a violation of its sovereignty.

In February of 2024, UAE signed a $35 billion dollars investment deal with Egypt, and relations between the two countries is at its best. In fact, many high IQ observers believe that the UAE is helping Egypt to put land-locked Ethiopia into a lethal trap that will force it to abandon the dam that Meles Zenawi built to punish Egypt.
