Tnsae Abera, who claims to be a younger sister of the alleged ‘hijacker’ of the Ethiopian ET-702, Copilot Hailemedhin Abera, now under police custody in Switzerland, had said on her public Facebook message that Hailemedhin had a noticeable psychological problem that had affected him since recently.
Tnsae said on her Facebook account written in Amharic language that her brother has always been a very caring, humane and intellectual person. He used to be sociable member of the extended family, who loved working for the Ethiopian Airlines and his own Country. However, she says, since recently, he started to show behavioural changes. After explaining about his good behaviour and biography in short, she said,
Since recent times, Hailemedhin stopped contact and interacting with his family and relatives. He prefered to be alone and spoke little. His seemed to be having an unhappy life. When we asked what happened to him, we learnt that he believes he has enemies who want to attack him. He believes his phone has been tapped. He also does not open his laptop without covering his webcam. He also had installed a CCTV in his room fearing that ”they” would search it when he was away. In general, he has been suffering from a massive depression and stress. It is also a surprise that he did not explain his worries to us in details. My brother is a person who reaches out to others even when he is in dire conditions. The whole family is now sorry that we did not help him by providing medical attention when we even knew his problem fleetingly. My readers, God is my witness, I would have prefered to die today and have him in good health than write this note. If this is a lie, I want my God to show me the due of my lie now. It is sad that organisations in our Country only test the physical and educational skills of their employees but do not follow up their mental conditions. We do not know what happened to my brother just before he entered the plane. My brother may have either locked the door on the pilot fearing that ‘his enemies’ may attack him when he returns back home or may have thought the pilot may cooperate with ”them”. It is either of the two. I do not think the law allows people with such psychiatric issues to go to jail. Hailemedhin was worried about his life. He was suffering from extremely unbearable stress. Those who are in good health my not understand this. I can, because I also suffer from same problem, although not in the same scale as him. Dear all, the whole family besseches you to help copilot Hailemedhin Abera find justice and return back to his home. If he finds proper medical treatment and returns to his previous condition, we promise to pay back by helping him serve his Country better. Please spread this message.
