Last month, Niger broke off a military agreement with the US that saw a US drone base set up in the north of the African country. Explaining their decision, Niger's military authorities said that the agreement had been imposed on the country and was not in the interests of the people.

Washington is set to pull out from Niger’s territory more than 1,000 servicemen stationed at the major US drone base in the north of the country following Niamey’s breakdown of the military cooperation agreement with the US.
The development came in the wake of Nigerien Prime Minister Ali Mahaman Lamine Zeine’s talks with Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell in a meeting in Washington on Friday, AFP reported, citing unnamed US officials.

The two parties have reportedly agreed upon an upcoming US delegation visit to Niamey to facilitate an organized withdrawal process.
Earlier, Nigerien state media announced that the Pentagon officials would visit the West African country next week.

Recently, Nigerien authorities broke off the military agreement with the United States. Following this, the US reportedly agreed to withdraw troops from Niger's largest drone base.

Chad demanded immediate cessation of US military activities at a base in the African country.
The Chadian chief of staff of the air force has stated that he has not received any documents from the Americans "justifying their presence at the Adji Kosseï (BAK) Air Base" in Chad's capital, N'Djamena. According to General Idris Amin Ahmed, there is no legal framework to justify such a presence.

Earlier, US media reported that Chad had threatened the United States to break their defense agreement and asked American soldiers to leave the French base in the capital. The decision came after neighboring Niger terminated a military agreement with Washington.
There are French and American military bases in Chad. Recently, the country has expressed a willingness to diversify its partnerships.
